The Pays de la Loire region was only created in the late 20th century to serve as a "zone of influence" for it's capital Nantes. It's made up of five very different departments and covers over 32,000km's2.

It is a prosperous region with a growing population that now numbers over 3.5 million.

Mayenne - the inhabitants of this proud and historic department are known as Mayennais which, contrary to popular opinion, is not the source of the word Mayonnaise. Covering over 5,000km2 the department only has a population of 300,000. Mayenne is located on the Mayenne river, close to the borders of Brittany.

​

Laval is famous for the production of fine linens but nowadays much of the economy is centred around the excellent technology park which is home to many thriving and innovative companies.

​

Rather confusingly the department also has a prominent town called Mayenne which sits on the river. Sadly it was badly bombed during world war II but it does have an attractive chateau and Romanesque church.

 

Le Gîte de Roseraie is nestled just outside of Brece  on the D5,

 

• Head for Brecé 53120

​

• In Brecé continue on the D5 towards Mayenne

​

• Travel through L’ Ecluse a small hamlet

​

• After 2 Km you will pass Haras du Breil a boarding kennels and a house on your right with lions on the gate posts

​

• After a further 1 Km you will see a house on your right and right turn to Saint Denis de Gastines

​

• 100 yards further on to your left you will see a red and white post and a sign for La Vigne and La Mercerie, turn left here.

​

• Follow the lane till the end where you will pass through an arch in a hedge and will find La Gîte de Roseaire on the right.

​

Set your SatNav to 53120 Brecé La Mercerie.
